How to stop spam and harassment in BuddyPress communities

Our BuddyPress community has grown to 2,000 members and we are starting to see harassment in private messages and spam in activity posts. The built-in BuddyPress tools are not enough — we need members to be able to report content and moderators to handle it from the frontend without going to wp-admin.

BuddyPress Moderation Pro is built for this. It lets your community self-moderate while you focus on building. Here is what it includes:

  • Flag anything — members can flag activity posts, comments, private messages, member profiles, groups, and even avatars with one click. Optional reason field for context.
  • Centralized report log — admin dashboard showing all flagged content, filterable by type (activities, messages, members, groups).
  • One-click actions — approve, dismiss, hide content, or restrict users directly from the queue.
  • Auto-moderation thresholds — automatically hide content after X reports without waiting for a moderator.
  • Frontend moderation queue — moderators manage reports from a Moderation tab in their BuddyPress profile. No wp-admin needed.
  • Member blocking — members can block individual users from contacting them. View and manage their block list.
  • Community Moderator role — assign trusted members as moderators without giving them full admin access.
  • Email notifications — get notified instantly when content is flagged so you can respond quickly.

Works with BuddyX, BuddyX Pro, Reign, BuddyBoss Theme, and most popular BuddyPress themes.
